The Forester Pub & Grill is renowned for Fish and Chips, Steaks, Pub Specialties such as London Porter Beef Stew and Shepherd's Pie, German food such as Wienerschnitzel and  sumptuous daily specials,

We carry an outstanding wine list representing El Dorado County's finest red and white wines.

Tap beers include several offerings from the Jack Russell Brewing Company as well as top-selling national microbrews.

The atmosphere is exceedingly friendly and warm.

Kids enjoy the pub also, with its video arcade and Kid's Menu.

We have recently added menu items from the St. Pauli Inn, which we founded and which we operated for 22 years.  St. Pauli's is closed now, but the legacy lives on at The Forester!

QUESTION?  Why does the food taste better at the Forester than at other similarly-priced restaurants?

1)  Oils.  We use only two oils:  Rice bran oil for deep-frying, and corn oil for grilling.  Rice bran oil has been proven to be the best medium for frying foods, as it contains no transfatty acids which are deleterious to health, and which contains Omega factors which are beneficial to health.  A simple Google search will give you good information on rice oil.  Corn oil is a good neutral, heat-tolerant oil very well suited to grilling menu items such as calamari steaks and pork chops because it does not impart a disagreeable flavor such as soy-based oils.  Most restaurants use a cheap blend of soy and other inexpensive oils.

2)  Real butter.  At the Forester only real salted and unsalted butter are used in cooking.  Unsalted butter is used to make roux (flour and butter) for the purpose of thickening stews, gravies and soups.  Salted butter has a variety of applications such as shrimp scampi, grilled oysters and vegetables.

3)  Fresh ingredients.  At the Forester almost nothing comes out of cans.  Our marinara sauce is created from scratch from fresh boiled tomatoes, fresh vegetables and fresh herbs, for example.  Our chicken stew is created from fresh whole chickens, not with the chicken breasts so many restaurants are fond of using because it saves time.  Whole wheat buns are an option at all times.  The list goes on and on, but you see our point....nothing but fresh, wholesome, good food.
